IELTS SPEAKING PART 2

- And explain why it was enjoyable
PART 2 · SAMPLE ANSWER
If I have to talk about an enjoyable evening I had with my friends, I would definitely like to tell you about an evening after our final exams last year.
Personally, I think it was such a memorable evening because we’d all been under a lot of pressure for weeks, so it was the first time we could properly relax.
There were four of us, and we decided to meet at a small restaurant near our school.
At first, we’d planned to have dinner and then go home early because everyone was quite tired. But after we’d eaten, none of us really wanted the evening to end.
So we went for a walk around the area and bought some drinks. We talked about the exams, our summer plans and some funny things that had happened at school.
At one point, we started looking through old photos on our phones and ended up laughing for ages about things we’d almost forgotten.
There wasn’t anything particularly special about the place or the food. What made the evening enjoyable was simply being able to spend quality time together without worrying about homework or exams.
I went home quite late, but I felt really happy and relaxed.
It reminded me that sometimes the best moments aren’t carefully planned. They just happen when you’re with people you feel comfortable around.

Discussion Questions
4 câu hỏi
1
Do young and old people spend their free time differently?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Yeah, generally I think they do, although there are obviously exceptions. Young people may be more interested in social media, gaming or going out with friends, while older people might prefer quieter activities like walking or gardening. Part of that may simply be because they have different energy levels and interests. For example, my friends might happily stay out until late at night, while my grandparents would much rather meet relatives during the day and be home early.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
different energy levels and interestsmức năng lượng và sở thích khác nhau
quieter activitiesnhững hoạt động nhẹ nhàng hơn
there are exceptionsvẫn có ngoại lệ
2
Can leisure activities bring family members closer?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think they can, especially if everyone actually enjoys the activity. Doing something together gives family members a chance to talk without focusing on work or school. For example, when my family travels or even just eats out together, we usually catch up properly because nobody is rushing off to do something else. But if parents force children to join an activity they hate, it might actually have the opposite effect.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
have the opposite effecttạo ra tác dụng ngược lại
3
Is it difficult for members of a large family to get along?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Hmm, it can be, simply because there are more personalities and opinions involved. In a big family, people may disagree about small things, like where to eat or how to spend a holiday. But having more family members can also mean more support when someone has a problem. So I don’t think a large family automatically has more conflict; it probably depends on how well people communicate and respect each other.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
disagree about small thingsbất đồng về những việc nhỏ
more supportnhiều sự hỗ trợ hơn
respect each othertôn trọng lẫn nhau
4
Why is spending time with friends important for young people?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Well, I think friends give teenagers a different kind of support from their parents. Young people often go through similar experiences, like exams, school pressure or problems with classmates, so they can understand each other quite easily. Spending time with friends also gives teenagers a chance to relax and be themselves. Of course, friendships can sometimes create pressure too, but overall I think they’re an important part of growing up.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
go through similar experiencestrải qua những trải nghiệm tương tự
be yourselfđược là chính mình
an important part of growing upmột phần quan trọng của quá trình trưởng thành
