Describe a natural place in your city that you enjoy visiting.
IELTS SPEAKING PART 2
Describe a natural place in your city that you enjoy visiting.
You should say:
- Where it is
- What it is like
- How often you go there
- Who you usually go with
- And explain why you enjoy visiting it
PART 2 · SAMPLE ANSWER
If I have to talk about a natural place in my city that I enjoy visiting, I would definitely like to tell you about a large park near the city centre.
Personally, I think it’s such a relaxing place because it gives me a chance to get away from traffic, buildings and screens for a while.
The park isn’t very far from my house, so I normally go there once or twice a month, usually with my family or a close friend.
It has a large lake in the middle, lots of trees and a long walking path around the water.
The first time I went there, I honestly didn’t expect much because I’d passed the entrance many times and thought it was just an ordinary park.
But once I walked further inside, I was surprised by how quiet it was. You could still see some buildings in the distance, but the traffic noise almost disappeared.
Now when I go there, I normally take a walk around the lake, buy a drink and sit somewhere for a while.
If I’m with a friend, we usually talk about school or whatever has happened during the week.
What I like most is that I don’t feel like I have to do anything there. I can just slow down and clear my head.
Whenever I’ve had a stressful week, even an hour there can put me in a better mood.

Discussion Questions
4 câu hỏi
1
Is protecting the environment more important than economic development?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Hmm, that’s quite a difficult one because I don’t think a country can completely ignore either side. Economic development creates jobs and improves people’s living standards, but if it causes serious environmental damage, the long-term cost can be huge. For example, a factory may create jobs, but if it pollutes the water local people depend on, that creates another problem. So ideally, development should happen in a way that doesn’t destroy the environment people need to live in.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
cause serious environmental damagegây thiệt hại nghiêm trọng cho môi trường
living standardsmức sống
long-term costcái giá/hậu quả lâu dài
2
Does spending time in nature improve people’s mood?
SAMPLE ANSWER
For me, definitely, although I suppose it varies from person to person. Natural places are usually quieter and have fewer distractions, so people can switch off from daily stress for a while. For example, after spending several hours studying, a short walk outside often makes me feel less tired than scrolling on my phone. I don’t think nature magically solves people’s problems, but it can give them some mental space.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
switch off from daily stresstạm thoát khỏi căng thẳng hàng ngày
fewer distractionsít yếu tố gây xao nhãng hơn
give someone mental spacecho ai khoảng không tinh thần để thư giãn/suy nghĩ
3
Why are natural places important in cities?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think they’re important because city life can be quite crowded and noisy. Parks and lakes give people somewhere to exercise, relax and spend time outdoors without having to travel far. They’re especially useful for people who live in small apartments and don’t have gardens. Natural spaces can also make cities look more attractive and provide shade during hot weather.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
spend time outdoorsdành thời gian ngoài trời
live in small apartmentssống trong căn hộ nhỏ
provide shadetạo bóng mát
4
Should governments spend more money on parks?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Probably, but I think it depends on what the city already has. If an area has almost no green space, then building or improving parks could really improve residents’ quality of life. But governments also have to spend money on schools, hospitals and transport. So rather than creating very expensive parks, I think maintaining clean, safe and accessible green spaces may be more important.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
improve residents’ quality of lifecải thiện chất lượng cuộc sống của người dân
maintain green spacesduy trì không gian xanh
accessibledễ tiếp cận
