If I have to talk about a short trip I take quite often but don’t really enjoy, I would definitely like to tell you about travelling from my home to an extra class during rush hour.
Personally, I think it’s such an unpleasant journey because the distance isn’t very far, but traffic can make it feel much longer.
I normally make this trip in the late afternoon, usually once or twice a week.
The class is only a few kilometres from my house, so on a quiet day the journey doesn’t take very long.
The problem is that I usually have to leave at exactly the time when lots of people are coming home from work or school.
At first, I thought I’d get used to it after a few weeks.
But I still find it stressful because the roads are packed with vehicles, and sometimes it takes twice as long as expected.
Another thing I dislike is that I always have to leave home much earlier just in case there’s heavy traffic.
Once, I left later than usual because I thought the roads looked quiet. But there was an accident further ahead, and I ended up arriving nearly twenty minutes late.
Since then, I always allow extra time for the journey.
I don’t mind the class itself at all. I just wish getting there didn’t involve so much waiting in traffic.

Một điều khác mình không thích là luôn phải rời nhà sớm hơn nhiều để đề phòng tắc đường.
Một lần mình đi muộn hơn bình thường vì nghĩ đường có vẻ vắng. Nhưng phía trước xảy ra tai nạn và cuối cùng mình đến muộn gần hai mươi phút.
Từ đó, mình luôn dành thêm thời gian cho hành trình.
Mình hoàn toàn không ngại lớp học. Mình chỉ ước việc đến đó không phải mất quá nhiều thời gian chờ trong giao thông.

Can people learn more about a country by travelling there or reading books?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think travelling gives people first-hand experience, which books can’t completely replace. You can see how people behave, try the food and experience daily life yourself. But a short holiday can also give a very limited picture of a country. Someone might spend three days in tourist areas and think they understand the whole culture. So ideally, travelling and reading should complement each other.

How long should people stay abroad to understand another country?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I’m not sure there’s a specific amount of time. Obviously, living somewhere for several months gives you more insight than spending a weekend there. But even after years, a foreigner may not fully understand every part of the culture. I think the important thing is whether people interact with local people and experience normal life instead of staying only in tourist areas.

Do young and old people travel differently?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Generally, I think so. Younger travellers may be more willing to travel on a budget, stay in simple accommodation and fit lots of activities into one day. Older people may care more about comfort and a slower schedule. But that’s obviously a generalisation. Some retired people are extremely adventurous, while some young people prefer relaxing in a hotel for a week.

Why do people travel abroad?
SAMPLE ANSWER
There are lots of reasons. Some want to experience different cultures and food, while others simply want to relax somewhere different. People may also travel for education, work or to visit relatives. Personally, I think one attractive thing about international travel is that it takes you out of your normal environment, so even simple things like buying breakfast can feel interesting.
