PART 2 · SAMPLE ANSWER
If I have to talk about a food people eat on a special occasion, I would definitely like to tell you about bánh chưng, which is commonly eaten during Lunar New Year in Vietnam.
Personally, I think it’s such a meaningful food because it’s strongly connected with family traditions.
Bánh chưng is made mainly from sticky rice, mung beans and pork, and it’s wrapped in green leaves.
Preparing it can take quite a long time because the ingredients have to be arranged carefully before the cakes are wrapped and boiled for several hours.
When I was younger, I didn’t really understand why people spent so much time making something that could easily be bought from a shop.
At first, I thought the important thing was simply eating it.
But as I got older, I realised that the preparation itself was part of the tradition.
In some families, people sit together while wrapping and cooking the cakes, so it becomes a chance to spend time together before the new year.
I think people continue eating bánh chưng because it reminds them of family, childhood and traditional celebrations.
Personally, I don’t eat a huge amount of it, but seeing it at home immediately makes me think of Tet.

Nếu phải nói về một món ăn mọi người dùng trong dịp đặc biệt, mình chắc chắn muốn kể về bánh chưng, một món thường được ăn vào Tết Nguyên đán ở Việt Nam.
Mình thấy đây là một món rất ý nghĩa vì gắn chặt với truyền thống gia đình.
Bánh chưng chủ yếu được làm từ gạo nếp, đậu xanh và thịt lợn, sau đó được gói bằng lá xanh.
Quá trình chuẩn bị có thể mất khá nhiều thời gian vì nguyên liệu cần được xếp cẩn thận trước khi bánh được gói và luộc trong nhiều giờ.
Khi còn nhỏ mình không thực sự hiểu tại sao mọi người lại dành nhiều thời gian làm một món mà có thể dễ dàng mua ở cửa hàng.
Ban đầu mình nghĩ phần quan trọng chỉ là ăn bánh.
Nhưng càng lớn mình càng nhận ra chính quá trình chuẩn bị cũng là một phần của truyền thống.
Trong một số gia đình, mọi người ngồi cùng nhau khi gói và nấu bánh, nên đây trở thành cơ hội dành thời gian bên nhau trước năm mới.
Mình nghĩ mọi người tiếp tục ăn bánh chưng vì nó gợi nhớ đến gia đình, tuổi thơ và những dịp lễ truyền thống.
Cá nhân mình không ăn quá nhiều nhưng chỉ cần nhìn thấy bánh chưng ở nhà là lập tức nghĩ đến Tết.

Is it better to eat at home or in a restaurant?
SAMPLE ANSWER
It depends on the situation. Eating at home is usually cheaper and people have more control over ingredients, which is useful for everyday meals. But restaurants are convenient for celebrations because nobody has to cook or wash everything afterwards. For me, home is better for normal days, while a restaurant can make a special occasion feel more special.

Definitely. People now have access to a much wider range of ingredients and international food. Convenience food and delivery services are also much more common. But one downside is that people may eat more highly processed food than previous generations. So food choices have become more varied and convenient, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re healthier.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Festival foods often take longer to prepare and may use more expensive ingredients because they’re connected with celebration. For example, a family wouldn’t normally spend several hours preparing a complicated dish on a regular school day. So special food often marks the importance of the occasion.

Why do people have special foods for festivals?

I think food helps keep traditions alive. Even if lifestyles change, preparing the same dishes every year connects people with family memories and previous generations. Special foods also create a sense that the day is different from a normal day. For children, a certain smell or dish can become strongly connected with a festival and stay in their memory for years.
