If I have to talk about a party that impressed me a lot, I would definitely like to tell you about my best friend’s birthday party last year.
Personally, I think it was such a memorable party because it wasn’t very expensive or fancy, but everyone had a really good time.
The party was held at her house on a Saturday evening. There were probably around fifteen people, mainly her close friends and family members.
I arrived a little early because I’d agreed to help decorate the room. We put up some balloons, prepared snacks and hid the birthday cake in the kitchen.
My friend thought we were just going to have a normal dinner together. At first, I was worried that she’d figure out the surprise, because one of my friends nearly mentioned the party in front of her.
Luckily, everything went according to plan. When she walked into the room, everyone shouted “Happy Birthday”, and she looked completely shocked.
We spent the rest of the evening eating, playing games, taking photos and catching up with each other.
What impressed me most wasn’t the food or decorations but the atmosphere. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there.
I left feeling really happy because it reminded me that you don’t need to spend a fortune to have a memorable celebration.

May mắn là mọi thứ diễn ra đúng kế hoạch. Khi bạn ấy bước vào phòng, mọi người cùng chúc mừng sinh nhật và bạn ấy trông hoàn toàn bất ngờ.
Chúng mình dành phần còn lại của buổi tối để ăn uống, chơi trò chơi, chụp ảnh và trò chuyện với nhau.
Điều khiến mình ấn tượng nhất không phải đồ ăn hay trang trí mà là bầu không khí. Mọi người thực sự rất vui khi có mặt ở đó.
Mình ra về với tâm trạng rất vui vì bữa tiệc khiến mình nhận ra rằng không cần phải tiêu quá nhiều tiền để có một buổi kỷ niệm đáng nhớ.

What kinds of special events do people celebrate in your country?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Well, there are quite a few, but I suppose birthdays, weddings and traditional festivals are the most common ones. The way people celebrate also depends on the occasion. A birthday might just involve a small meal with friends, while a wedding can involve hundreds of guests and a lot of preparation. In my family, for example, birthdays are usually quite simple, but traditional holidays are a much bigger deal because relatives come together.

Is it better to have a party at home or in a restaurant?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think it really depends. Having a party at home can feel more personal and relaxed, and you don’t have to worry as much about time. But someone has to cook, clean and prepare everything, which can be exhausting. A restaurant is more convenient, especially for a large group, but it can cost quite a lot. So for a small birthday, I’d probably choose home, but for something like a wedding, a restaurant makes more sense.

Why do some people prefer private parties?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Hmm, maybe because they feel more comfortable around people they already know. At a big public event, you might have to make small talk with strangers, which isn’t enjoyable for everyone. A private party also gives people more freedom to talk about personal things or just be themselves. For example, I’m much more relaxed singing badly in front of five close friends than in front of fifty people I barely know.

When do people usually hold parties?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Well, usually when there’s something worth celebrating, like a birthday, graduation, wedding or promotion. But I don’t think people always need a major reason. Sometimes friends organize a small get-together simply because they haven’t seen each other for a long time. For teenagers, finishing an important exam could even be enough of a reason to go out and celebrate together.
