IELTS SPEAKING PART 2
Describe a person whose health and fitness you have helped to improve.
You should say:
- Who this person is
- Why you wanted to help them
- How you helped them
- And explain whether it was easy or difficult
PART 2 · SAMPLE ANSWER
If I have to talk about a person whose health and fitness I’ve helped to improve, I would definitely like to tell you about one of my close friends.
Personally, I think she’s such an important person to me, so I was quite worried when I noticed that she wasn’t taking very good care of herself.
It happened last year when we were preparing for some important exams. She spent most of her time studying, stayed up late almost every night and hardly did any exercise.
At first, I thought it was just a temporary thing because we were all under a lot of pressure, but after a few weeks, she started looking really tired and often complained that she couldn’t concentrate in class.
So I suggested that we start exercising together. Instead of doing anything too difficult, we simply went for a thirty-minute walk after school three or four times a week. I also encouraged her to cut down on junk food and go to bed a little earlier.
At first, she wasn’t very interested because she thought exercise would take time away from studying. But it turned out that she actually felt more energetic afterwards and could concentrate better.
After about two months, she looked much healthier and said she was sleeping better as well.
I was really happy because I felt that I’d made a positive difference to her life. It wasn’t always easy to keep her motivated, but I think it was definitely worth it.

Discussion Questions
3 câu hỏi
1
Does stress have an impact on people’s health?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Yeah, definitely. I think stress can take a toll on people’s health, especially if it continues for a long time. For students, for example, exam pressure might make them stay up late, skip meals or lose sleep because they’re constantly thinking about their results. A little stress might actually motivate someone to work harder, but if it gets out of control, it can affect both their physical and mental health. So I think the amount of stress matters.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
take a toll on someone’s healthgây ảnh hưởng xấu đến sức khỏe
exam pressureáp lực thi cử
get out of controltrở nên mất kiểm soát
2
Do young people pay enough attention to their health?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Hmm, I’m not sure they always do. Young people generally feel healthy, so they may think they can get away with unhealthy habits, like staying up late or eating fast food regularly. For example, some students might sleep only five hours before an exam and think they’ll be fine because they’re young. But if that becomes a habit, it could cause problems later on. So I think young people often know what’s healthy but don’t necessarily follow that advice.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
get away with unhealthy habitsduy trì thói quen không lành mạnh mà chưa thấy hậu quả ngay
3
Do older people care more about their health than young people?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Generally, I’d say yes, but obviously it varies from person to person. Older people may pay more attention because they start noticing changes in their bodies or have friends with health problems. So they might be more careful about what they eat or make an effort to exercise regularly. Young people, on the other hand, often take their health for granted because they don’t feel any immediate problems.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
vary from person to personkhác nhau tùy từng người
make an effort to do somethingcố gắng làm gì
take your health for grantedcoi sức khỏe là điều hiển nhiên
