- Why you wanted it

- And explain how you felt after buying it
PART 2 · SAMPLE ANSWER
If I have to talk about a time when I saved money to buy something special, I would definitely like to tell you about the time I saved up for a pair of wireless earphones.
Personally, I thought they were quite special because they were the first relatively expensive thing I’d bought entirely with my own money.
It happened about a year ago. My old earphones had stopped working, and I’d wanted a wireless pair for quite a long time.
At first, I thought about asking my parents to buy them for me. But then I decided that since they weren’t something I really needed, I should try to save up for them myself.
I started putting aside part of my pocket money every week. I also stopped buying drinks and snacks after school as often as I normally did.
To be honest, that was the hardest part. A few times, I almost spent the money on other things because saving felt really slow.
But after about two months, I finally had enough.
When I bought the earphones, I felt surprisingly proud. They weren’t the most expensive ones in the shop, but because I’d worked towards the goal myself, they felt much more valuable to me.
The experience also made me realise how quickly small everyday expenses add up.
Since then, I’ve become a little more careful about what I spend money on.

Discussion Questions
6 câu hỏi
1
Is donating time as valuable as donating money to charity?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Yeah, I think it can be, and sometimes it may be even more useful. A charity obviously needs money to operate, but it also needs people to give their time and effort. For example, someone might not have much money to donate, but they could help teach children, prepare food or organise an event. So I think value shouldn’t always be measured in money.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
give your time and effortdành thời gian và công sức
operatehoạt động/vận hành
be measured in moneyđược đo bằng tiền
2
What do people usually save money for?
SAMPLE ANSWER
It depends on their age and situation. Teenagers might save for a phone, clothes or a trip, while adults are more likely to save for bigger financial goals, like a house, a car or their children’s education. People also need savings for emergencies because unexpected expenses can happen. So saving isn’t always about buying something enjoyable; sometimes it’s just about feeling more secure.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
bigger financial goalsnhững mục tiêu tài chính lớn hơn
unexpected expenseschi phí bất ngờ
feel more securecảm thấy an tâm hơn
3
Is it better to spend money or save it?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Hmm, I don’t think either one is always better. If people save every single bit of money and never enjoy themselves, that doesn’t seem very balanced. But spending everything immediately can cause problems if an emergency comes up. Personally, I think people should set some money aside first and then enjoy part of what’s left. It’s really about finding a balance.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
set some money asideđể dành một khoản tiền
an emergency comes upmột tình huống khẩn cấp bất ngờ xảy ra
find a balancetìm sự cân bằng
4
Should teenagers learn how to manage money?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Definitely. Teenagers will eventually need to make financial decisions on their own, so learning early can prevent some bad habits. Even managing a small amount of pocket money teaches them that if they spend everything today, they won’t have anything left tomorrow. For example, saving for something they really want can teach patience much better than simply having their parents buy it for them.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
make financial decisions on your owntự đưa ra quyết định tài chính
prevent bad habitsngăn hình thành thói quen xấu
teach patiencedạy tính kiên nhẫn
5
What can parents do to teach children about money?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think giving children a small amount of pocket money can be useful if parents let them decide how to use it. If a child spends it all immediately, parents don’t necessarily need to give them more straight away. That way, the child experiences the consequence of their choice. Parents can also talk openly about simple things like prices, saving and why the family can’t buy everything they want.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
experience the consequence of a choicetrải nghiệm hậu quả của một lựa chọn
talk openly about somethingnói chuyện cởi mở về điều gì
straight awayngay lập tức
6
Should schools teach students about money?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Yeah, I think basic financial education would be useful because not every family talks about money at home. Students could learn practical things like budgeting, saving, bank accounts and how interest works. They don’t need extremely complicated economics. Even learning how to plan a monthly budget would probably be more useful in everyday life than some things students memorise for exams and then forget.
