PART 2+3Giải đề Speaking Quý 3/2026
Describe a person you know who has a successful business.
IELTS SPEAKING PART 2
Describe a person you know who has a successful business.
You should say:
- Who this person is
- How you know this person
- Why or how they started the business
- What kind of business it is
- And explain why you think it is successful
PART 2 · SAMPLE ANSWER
If I have to talk about someone I know who has a successful business, I would definitely like to tell you about a relative of mine who runs a small café.
Personally, I think it’s such an interesting business because it started very small but gradually built a loyal group of customers.
I’ve known this person all my life because he’s a member of my extended family.
He opened the café several years ago after working for another business for a long time.
At first, he only wanted a small place where people in the neighbourhood could have coffee and breakfast.
The business was quite difficult in the beginning because there were already several cafés nearby.
At first, I thought it would be hard for him to compete with larger places that had better locations and more expensive decoration.
But instead of trying to copy them, he focused on building relationships with regular customers.
He remembered people’s usual orders, kept the food simple and tried to make the service friendly.
Over time, more customers started recommending the café to friends.
He also began using social media to post photos and update people about new dishes.
I think the business is successful because he understands that people aren’t only paying for coffee; they’re also paying for a comfortable experience.
I really admire the way he built the business gradually instead of trying to grow too quickly.

Discussion Questions
6 câu hỏi
1
Is it easy to start a business?
SAMPLE ANSWER
It’s probably easier to start one than to make it successful. Today, people can sell products online with relatively little money, so they don’t always need a physical shop. But they still need to find customers, manage costs and deal with competition. A business may look simple from the outside, but owners often have to handle many different responsibilities at once.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
handle many responsibilities at oncexử lý nhiều trách nhiệm cùng lúc
physical shopcửa hàng thực tế
manage costsquản lý chi phí
2
What factors make a business successful or unsuccessful?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think understanding customers is probably one of the biggest factors. A company can have a great product, but if nobody actually needs it or the price is wrong, it may still fail. Service, location, marketing and cost control also matter. Sometimes even a good business idea struggles because the owner runs out of money before it becomes profitable.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
run out of moneyhết tiền
become profitablebắt đầu có lãi
understand customershiểu khách hàng
3
Are big stores better than small stores?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Not always. Big stores usually have more products and can offer lower prices because they buy in large quantities. Small stores, though, may provide more personal service and understand local customers better. For example, a small café owner may remember what regular customers like, which a large chain can’t always do. So each type has different strengths.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
buy in large quantitiesmua với số lượng lớn
personal servicedịch vụ mang tính cá nhân
regular customerskhách quen
4
Should governments help small businesses?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think some support is reasonable because small businesses create jobs and can make local areas more lively. Governments could offer training, simple tax guidance or easier access to small business loans. But I don’t think they should keep supporting a business forever if it isn’t viable. Assistance should help businesses get established, not remove all the risks of entrepreneurship.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
get establishedổn định và xây dựng được chỗ đứng
small business loanskhoản vay cho doanh nghiệp nhỏ
be viablecó khả năng tồn tại/phát triển
5
Why do people want to start their own business?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Some want more independence and don’t like working under someone else. Others have an idea they believe could make money or solve a problem. There can also be financial motivation because a successful business may earn more than a normal salary. But running a business also means more uncertainty, so people need to be comfortable with taking financial risks.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
take financial riskschấp nhận rủi ro tài chính
more independencenhiều sự tự chủ hơn
financial motivationđộng lực tài chính
6
What are the disadvantages of owning a business?
SAMPLE ANSWER
The biggest one is probably responsibility. If you’re an employee, you can often finish work and go home, but business owners may keep thinking about customers, staff and money after working hours. Income may also be unstable, especially at the beginning. So although owning a business offers freedom, it can also bring a lot of pressure and uncertainty.
