IELTS SPEAKING PART 2

You should say:
- What the skill was
- Who taught you
- How you learned it
- And explain how you felt about learning it
PART 2 · SAMPLE ANSWER
If I have to talk about a skill I learned as a child, I would definitely like to tell you about learning how to ride a bicycle.
Personally, I think it was such an important childhood skill because it gave me much more freedom to play outside with my friends.
I learned it when I was around seven years old, and my father was the person who taught me.
At first, he held the back of the bicycle while I tried to keep my balance. I was really nervous because I’d fallen a few times before and had scraped my knee.
For the first few days, I found it difficult to keep my balance, and I kept looking down at the wheels instead of looking ahead.
One afternoon, my father told me he was still holding the bike, so I started riding. After a few seconds, I turned around and realised he’d already let go.
At first, I panicked, but then I realised I was actually riding by myself.
I was incredibly excited and probably cycled up and down the same road about twenty times.
Learning to ride a bike taught me that sometimes you need to get over your fear before you realise you can actually do something.

Discussion Questions
6 câu hỏi
1
Should children learn specialised skills?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Hmm, I think they can, but it shouldn’t be forced too early. If a child shows a strong interest in music, sport or art, giving them extra training can help them develop their talent. But if parents choose a skill only because they want their child to be successful, the child may quickly lose interest. So I think specialised training is useful when it matches what the child genuinely enjoys.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
develop their talentphát triển tài năng
extra trainingđào tạo/luyện tập thêm
lose interestmất hứng thú
2
Can children learn useful things from other children?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Absolutely. Children often learn very naturally from each other because they use simple language and aren’t afraid to copy what their friends do. For example, a child might learn the rules of a game much faster from another child than from a long explanation by an adult. They also pick up social skills, like sharing, taking turns and solving small disagreements.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
learn naturally from each otherhọc một cách tự nhiên từ nhau
pick up social skillshọc được các kỹ năng xã hội
take turnslần lượt, thay phiên
3
Do children learn skills more easily than adults?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I wouldn’t say every skill, but children may have an advantage in some areas. They’re often less afraid of making mistakes, so they’ll just try again instead of worrying about looking silly. Language pronunciation is a good example because young children can often copy sounds quite naturally. Adults, though, may understand instructions more quickly because they have more experience. So I think each age group has different strengths.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
less afraid of making mistakesít sợ mắc lỗi hơn
have an advantagecó lợi thế
different strengthsnhững điểm mạnh khác nhau
4
How is learning a skill as a child different from learning as an adult?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think children usually learn through play and repetition, while adults are more likely to want a clear explanation first. Children might repeat the same activity twenty times without thinking of it as practice. Adults often want to understand how and why something works. On the other hand, adults may become frustrated more easily because they expect themselves to improve quickly.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
through play and repetitionthông qua chơi và lặp lại
how and why something workscách thức và lý do một thứ hoạt động
become frustratedtrở nên nản/bực bội
5
Is it better to learn a skill in a group or alone?
SAMPLE ANSWER
It really depends. In a group, people can learn from each other and keep each other motivated, which is useful for things like sports or languages. But learning alone lets you move at your own pace and focus on exactly what you need. For example, I enjoy practising English speaking with other people, but when I learn vocabulary, I prefer to study by myself.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
keep each other motivatedgiúp nhau duy trì động lực
move at your own pacehọc/tiến bộ theo tốc độ của riêng mình
focus on exactly what you needtập trung đúng vào thứ mình cần
6
What skills should preschool children learn?
SAMPLE ANSWER
I think basic communication and self-care skills are probably more important than academic skills at that age. Children could learn how to communicate what they need, share with others, put away their toys and do simple things for themselves. Of course, learning numbers or letters can be useful too, but I don’t think preschool children need a lot of academic pressure. They still need plenty of time to play and explore.
USEFUL VOCABULARY
self-care skillskỹ năng tự chăm sóc bản thân
put away their toyscất đồ chơi
